John J. Galvin, aged 79 years, died this morning at 5:00 o'clock at his home, 511 First Avenue, N. E., following an extended illness. The funeral will be held at the Sacred Heart church at 9:30 Friday morning. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, in charge of the Hintz Funeral Home. The body will lie in state at the Galvin home from two o'clock Thursday afternoon, until the hour of the funeral.

Mr. Galvin is one of the staunch and honored citizens of Fayette county and of Oelwein. Spending his earlier active years on a farm near Westgate, he moved to Oelwein several years ago. Here, as well as wherever he was known he made a host of friends. By his sterling honesty and upright character he attracted all those with whom he came in contact. He always had a cheery word for everyone and he will be missed by those many friends along with the relatives he leaves to mourn his death.

He leaves his widow who has been bedfast for over a year, three sons Frank of Moline, Illinois, George of Des Moines, and Dr. Robert J. of Oelwein; also four daughters, Mrs. Georgina Egan of Westgate, Mrs. Laverne Werdel of Buffalo, New York, Mrs. Grace Devlin of Rochester, Minnesota and Mrs. Mae Dershan of Oelwein. The latter has spent her constant time with her parents during their illness for the past year or more, and has devoted her every energy to relieve them in every way possible. Such devotion and love and care has helped them in many ways to pass their tedious and painful hours of their illness.
