West Union Boy Killed.
Gazette:—Will Barnes, aged 24, younger son of Mr. and Mrs. Hunt Barnes of this city, was struck by a train a short distance below Turkey River Junction at about ten o'clock Sunday night, June 21st, receiving injuries from which he died Monday.
In company with Fred Blaui, the baggageman on the branch train, he was pumping a hand-car to the Junction from Buena Vista, when the accident occurred. They did not know of, or had forgotten, the excursion train returning from Hokah, Minn., where Rev. Sam Jones lectured Sunday, and they had just begun to run onto a trestle when they saw the headlight of the engine. They stopped the car and pulled it off the track, but it appears that the end of it, near which “Toodle” was standing, was not free from the track, and was struck by the engine. The car struck him and threw him a distance of twenty feet over the trestle. His companion escaped injury.Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he was born April 29, 1872 and is buried in the West Union Cemetery.
