Ben Schneider, son of Joseph and Mary Schneider, was born in Clayton County, IA, on May 18, 1868, and passed away at his home a short distance south of Elgin on Monday, November 3, 1947. He had reached the age of 79 years, 5 months and 17 days.

On November 10, 1891, he was married to Rosa Butikofer at Elkader, and ten children blessed this union. Their first nineteen years were spent on farms east of Elgin and in 1910 he purchased the John Benson farm. Later he bought the Imhoff farm south of Elgin, where he lived until the time of his death.

Mr. Schneider was noted for his kind and considerate ways and will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.

His wife and three children, William, John and Ida Friederich, and two brothers and a sister preceded him in death. Survivors include seven children, Mrs. Louisa Pfister, Mrs. Minnie Daniels, Samuel, Mrs. Mollie Schneider, Emil, Elizabeth and Ben, Jr; one brother, Fred; four sisters, Mrs. Louisa Martie, Mrs. Celia Schneider, Mrs. Rose Baumgartner and Mrs. Rachel Frieden; twenty grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Thursday afternoon, Nov. 6, at the Apostolic Church, with burial in the adjoining cemetery. Rev. Paul Banwart of West Bend conducted the services. Pall bearers were six grandsons, James Daniels, Harold Pfister, Gerald Schneider, Raymond, Junior and Richard Friederich.

Out of town relatives and friends attending the funeral were: Mrs. Martin Frieden, Levi Frieden, Paul Schneider, Rev. Paul Banwart, Mrs. Levi Banwart, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Schafer, Jr., of West Bend, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Sander, Heron Lake, MN, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Foels, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Schneider, Lavern Schneider of Postville, Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Lehman of Waucoma, Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Kleppe of Junction City, KS, Mrs. Wm. Sutter, Fred Trafalet, Sr., Mr. and Mrs. Fred Trafalet, Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Millard Kamus of West Union.
