Mrs. Rosa (Butikofer) Schneider, daughter of John and Elizabeth Butikofer, passed away at her home a short distance south of Elgin on Wednesday, July 5, 1939. She had reached the age of sixty-nine years, six months and eleven days. Her illness was of a month's duration.
Born in Clayton County, Jan. 23, 1870, she was married to Ben Schneider at Elkader on November 10, 1891. Ten children blessed this union, all children surviving except one son, William, who died at the age of two.
Surviving with the widower are nine children as follows: Mrs. Ida Friederich, Mrs. Louisa Pfister, John, Mrs. Minnie Daniels, Samuel, Mrs. Mollie Schneider, Emil, Elizabeth, and Ben, Jr. She also is survived by one brother, Louis Butikofer, and eighteen grandchildren.
Mrs. Schneider was of a loving disposition, kindly and always willing to help others in a self-sacrificing way. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
Funeral services were held Sunday at the Apostolic Church and burial made in the adjoining cemetery. Rev. Jacob Stettner of Elgin, IL and Rev. Ernest Graf of Akron, OH conducted the services.
Casket bearers were Lawrence, Louis and Lester Butikofer, Richard Friederich, Harold and Robert Schneider.
Out of town relatives and friends attending the funeral were: Louis Schneider and son Lawrence, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Schaffer, Mr. and Mrs. Levi Banwart of West Bend, Mrs. Elmer Blunier and son, Mrs. E, Blunier, Mrs. Mary Legel, Will Beer of Roanoke, IL, George Wander of Castalia, Mr. and Mrs. Archie Roberts of Oelwein.
