Marie Kelly

Marie C. Kelly died Monday, July 6, 1987 at Palmer Memorial Hospital, West Union.

A funeral mass was held Thursday, July 9, 10:30 a.m., at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Clermont. The Rev. Paul Otting officiated. Schutte Funeral Service, Postville, was in charge of arrangements. Interment was in the Church Cemetery.

Marie C. Kelly, daughter of Peter and Margaret (Kipp) Schissel, was born February 10, 1917 at Calmar. She graduated from Grant High School, Cedar Rapids. November 4, 1941 she married John W. Kelly at Cedar Rapids. They had 5 children.

They lived on the Kelly homestead located about 4 miles west of Clermont. In 1981 they moved to their present home in Clermont. Marie was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and the Rosary Society. She was a lifelong member of the Sacred Heart Circle.

She is preceded in death by her parents, a son, William, a grandson, David Rinken, 5 sisters, a twin sister, Margaret Bibby and Catheryn Schupanitz, Carrie Rothmeyer, Rose Hayes and Virginia Schmitz and a brother, Ralph Schissel.

Surviving are her husband, John, a son, Jerald and his wife, Debra, Hawkeye, 3 daughers (sic), Bonnie and her husband, Robert Rinken, and Jeanne and her husband, Merlin Casterton, all of Decorah and Inez and her husband, Vernon Oakland, Clermont, 13 grandchildren, 3 sisters, Mrs. Lumir (Florence) Bena, Mrs. Dolores Weaver and Mrs. Jerome (Frances) Schneberger, all of Cedar Rapids, many nieces, nephews and friends.

Casket bearers were Karl Wilker, Kenneth Wagner, Lorus Kremer, Michael Finnegan, James Helgerson and David Solheim.

Honorary casket bearers were Allen Johnson, Paul Waters, James Henderson and Leslie Anderson.
