THOMPSON SERVICES HELD AT BETHANY LUTHERAN

Final services were said for Hawley A. Thompson, 79, West Union, on Monday, March 25 in Bethany Lutheran church, rural West Union. Rev. Richard Vettrus officiated at the 2 o'clock services, with Burnham and Wood Funeral Home handling the arrangements. Mr. Thompson died March 21, at Good Samaritan Home in West Union where he had resided for the past year.

Burial was in Bethany Lutheran church cemetery. Pallbearers were Kenneth Reinertson, Dennis Osmindson, Richard Kleppe, Leslie Hauser, Lloyd Barness and Wayne Barness.

Hawley A. Thompson, son of Thomas and Kathryn Tofte Thompson, was born Oct. 14, 1905. In rural Eldorado. He was baptizzed and confirmed in Stavanger Lutheran church, rural Ossian. He attended the Eldorado school.

On Oct. 14, 1931 he was united in marriage to Agnes Barness. They celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary in October, 1984. Mr. and Mrs. Thompson joined the Bethany Lutheran church in 1939 the same year the church was started Hawley farmed for several years, worked for the railroad, was a night watchman for the turkey plant in Postville and Atwood Manufacturing, West Union.

Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.

He is survived by his wife Agnes, one daughter Bernice Latham, W four sons: Alvin, Cedar Rapids, Lesie, Floyd. Robert LaGrande and Raymond Marshalltown; 14 grand children and eight great grandchildren.
