OBITUARY of H.D. YACK

H.D. Yack died at the hospital Dec. 24, at the age of 78 years, after an extended illness. He became seriously ill in June and was confined to hospitals since that time. Prior to this, his wife, with the help of friends and relatives especially Eloise Lantz, cared for him in the home.

Mr. Yack, better known as Honnes, was born Feb. 5, 1884 at J-r-ihard and was baptized as Johannes David, in the German Lutheran faith. His early years were spent in that vicinity, living with his grandparents and attending the local schools.

When his family moved to Oklahoma he came to Elgin and was employed by John Falb for many years. On March 18, 1913, he was united in marriage to Irene Boyer, which indicates that in March 1963 they would have observed their 50th wedding anniversary. To this union two children were born: Serene, Mrs. Tom Desmond of Davenport and Virtus Yack of Excelsior Springs, Mo.

For the past 20 years, Mr. Yack was employed as sexton at the Elgin cemetery and continued until his illness prevented him from further service.

He is survived by his wife Irene; daughter, Serene, and husband, Tom: son, Virtus and wife Lois; three grandsons, Larry, Barry and Garry, and one granddaughter, D’Rene; two sisters, Anna, Mrs. Tim McGregor of Springfield, Mo., and Minnie, Mrs. Claud Dickens of Chelsea, Okla.; besides nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

Services were held Thursday, December 27, at 2:00 p.m. at the Muehlethaler funeral home.

Pallbearers were George Falb, Levi Frieden, Fred Butikofer, John Tillotson, Charles O’Neill and Elmer Lantz. Burial was made in the Elgin cemetery.
