Mary Hoehne

Mary Hoehne, 78, of Maynard, died Wednesday, April 28 1999, at Mercy Living Plus in Oelwein after a long illness.

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 1, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Peter Lutheran Church at Westgate, with the Rev. James Webster officiating.

Burial was at St. Peter Cemetery in Westgate. The Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein handled arrangements.

Mary Elizabeth (Broughton) Hoehne was born March 25, 1921, at Wadena, the daughter of Harry and Alta (Whittenbaugh) Broughton. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She graduated from West Union High School.

Mary was united in marriage with Edwin Arthur Hoehne Aug. 31, 1938, at Westgate. Ed and Mary farmed in the Maynard and Westgate area for many years.

Mary is remembered as a dedicated wife and mother. She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church and the American Legion Auxiliary, both of Westgate. She enjoyed bowling, playing cards, Scrabble and her family.

Survivors include two sons, Arlin Hoehne of Fayette, and Jerome and Peggy Hoehne of Fennimore, Wis.; two daughters, Janice and George Steinbronn of Maynard, and Beverly and James Dohse of Decorah; 11 grandchildren, Randy Hoehne, Kevin Hoehne, Darrell and Doah Hoehne, Brent Hoehne, Karmen and Lyle (Steinbronn) Bushkofsky, Kelly and Jeff (Steinbronn) Buehler, Kurt and Amy Steinbronn, Kristi and Brad (Steinbronn) Brownell, Daniel and Marit Dohse, Brian Hoehne and Jeffrey Hoehne; several great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; one brother, William and Virginia Broughton of West Union; and four sisters, Dorothy Broell of Waterloo, Helen Maine of Orland, Calif., Joanne Penne of Waterloo, and Virginia and John Pratt of Waterloo.

Mary Hoehne was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edwin, who died March 25, 1989; three brothers, John, Dale and Walter; and a sister, Margaret.
