Edmund V. Goerend

Edmund V. Goerend, 82, of St. Lucas, died Friday Nov. 10, 2000, at the Palmer Lutheran Health Center, West Union, after a brief illness.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wed., Nov. 15 at 11 a.m. at St. Luke's Catholic Church, St. Lucas with Rev. Marvin Salz officiating.

Music for the service will be provided by Kathy Meyer, organist. The pall will be placed on the casket by Edmund's wife and 2 sons, Bob and David. Lector for the mass is Jim Goerend. The offertory gifts will be presented by Edmund's 3 daughters. Internment is in St. Luke's Cemetery with Matthew, Ryan, Andy and Jackie Pavlovec, and Jolene and Russell Goerend as pallbearers. Military rites will be conducted by the Aloysius Schmitt American Legion Post #691. Larkin-Martin-Hugeback Funeral Home, New Hampton, is in charge of the arrangements.

Edmund V. Goerend was born Oct. 24, 1918 to Dominic and Minnie (Croatt) Goerend of St. Lucas. He received his education at St. Luke's School in St. Lucas. In 1941 Edmund enlisted in the U.S. Army in the 6th Ranger Division. He served 4 years in New Guinea, the Philippines, Guam and Australia, receiving an honorable discharge in 1945.

On Nov. 21, 1951 he married Rose Marie Riehle at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Lawler. The couple lived in St. Lucas following their marriage where Ed owned the Goerend Standard Service Station until his retirement in 1978. He was a member of St. Luke's Catholic Church and the Aloysius Schmitt American Legion Post #691. Ed enjoyed fishing, traveling, sporting events where his grandchildren played and loved to share his stories.

Survivors include his wife, Rose Marie; 3 sons: Bob (Julie) Goerend of West Union; David (Darla) Goerend of St. Lucas; Jim Goerend of Hopkins, Minn.; 3 daughters, Jeanne Adams of Austin, Texas; Vickie (Dan) Pavlovec of St. Lucas and Maureen Goerend of Austin, Texas; 7 grandchildren; 3 brothers: Frank (Wynema) Goerend of Dewey, Okla.; Duane (Ernie) Goerend of Salina, Kan.; and Butch (Rose) Goerend of Sacramento, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Patrick on June 28, 1988 and 2 sisters: Ella Hosting and Lucille Skettel.
