MAQUOKETA, Iowa — Andrew Bellendier, 85, of Maquoketa, died Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014, at Crestridge Nursing Home in Maquoketa.

His family will receive friends 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, at Lahey’s Funeral Home in Maquoketa, with a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 4:30 p.m. His funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Maquoketa with military honors.

Andrew was born April 7, 1928, in Oelwein, Iowa, to Andrew F. and Anna (Kisner) Bellendier. He graduated from Sacred Heart School in Oelwein in 1946. From June 1946 to April 1948, he served in the U.S. Navy. He was united in marriage Aug. 30, 1949, to Jacqueline Basten at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein. He graduated from Loras College in 1951 with a teaching degree. He taught and coached at the Catholic school in Stayeyville, Iowa, from 1952 to 1954 and in Cherokee, Iowa, from 1954 to 1958.

He worked for Walnut Grove Honegger and Rath Feed Co. Andrew owned and operated Hayes Café and A&W Root Beer, and he also managed the Maquoketa Country Club.

He was an active member of the Lions Club and the bowling league. He barbecued chicken for many churches, organizations and politicians. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church, a Script volunteer, the Knights of Columbus, where he helped with their breakfasts, and was a K of C volunteer pallbearer. He greatly enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family.
Andrew is survived by his wife Jackie; five children, Michael (Jean) Bellendier of Maquoketa, John (Connie) Bellendier of Maquoketa, Lynne (Pat) Frank of Davenport, Marcia (Randy) Thomann of Coralville, Iowa, Ann (Steve) Ambrozi of Bettendorf; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, and one sister.

He is preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, David Bellendier, in 1988; two brothers and three sisters.

Memorials may be given to Sacred Heart Catholic Church or Hospice of Jackson County.
