Sumner Gazette - August 21, 1890 Page 3

Wm. Robertson died at his home on Tuesday, August 12th, 1890, from a combination of heart disease and catarrh of the stomach, aged about 55 years.

He was born in Scotland and came to this country in 1849, settling in Wisconsin. In 1852 he moved from Wisconsin to Fayette Co., Iowa, where he continued to reside until the day of his death.

He was a man of strong constitution, experiencing little sickness through his life. He was a man of good judgment and kind heart. Patience was a prominent characteristic of his last illness. Quiet and peaceful he seldom left the farm except on business. Another early settler has gone to his final home. He claimed to be ready for death - declared his hope was in God only.

On Thursday morning his remains were followed by a long train of relatives and friends to the Pres. church whence after funeral services, conducted by Rev. Robt. A. Paden assisted by Rev. T. A. Miller, they were taken to Wilson Grove Cemetery and buried until "all that are in the grave shall hear His voice, and shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life and they that have done evil unto the resurrection of damnation."
