Elgin Echo, Thursday, 30 July 1896.
John Hutchison was born in Lismehaga (Lismehagn ?), Scotland, March 13, 1827; was married to Mary Cooper of the same place, June 7, 1847. Seven children were born to them, six boys and one girl, five of whom preceded him to the Summer Land. Two sons are living, John, of Kossuth County and James, of Lima (Tama ?).
Mr. Hutchison came to America in 1848, remained two years then return and brought his family in 1850. He then settled in Ohio for four years, thence removing to Westfield Township, Fayette County, Iowa, where he has since resided. By dint of perseverance and honest industry he accumulated considerable property of which the widow receives full benefit.
Mr. Hutchison was widely known and highly respected as a good and true man, a kind friend and an obliging neighbor. He will be greatly missed in the community in which he resided. The surviving members of the family have just reason to mourn the loss of a faithful and loving father.
By faith he was a Spiritualist and had been for many years, having full knowledge of his faith to the last. He departed from this life July 14, 1896. A large concourse of people assembled at the house to do the last sad rights and 55 teams followed the remains to the Cemetery at Lima.
