Elgin Echo, Thursday, 11 June 1896.
John Heiserman, died very suddenly at West Union, last Monday. He had been in failing health for some time but was confined to his house for only a few days. On Monday, he arose from his bed, fell to the floor and died almost immediately. We do not know his age exactly but he lost have been considerably past 70 years. He located in Fayette County, sometime in the 50s and opened up a farm; by industry and economy he became a prosperous and independent farmer. For several years he was one of the trustees of West Union Township. Sometime since he left his farm and removed to the city of West Union, where he died. At the time of his death he was at the house of his son, Mervin.
Another of the early settlers and respected citizens of the County has been taken from us. May those who succeed him be as worthy and as prosperous as was he.
