Elgin Echo, Thursday, 27 February 1896.

Benedicht Hunsberger died at the home of his daughter Mrs. W. J. Gruver in Elgin, Iowa, January 31, 1896 aged 81 years, five months and 12 days. Funeral services were held at the German Baptist church February 2 conducted by Rev. Hack. There was a very large attendance of people at the funeral attesting to the fact that Mr. Hunsberger was a man of many warm friends.

Benedicht Hunsberger was born in Switzerland, August 19, 1814, immigrated to America in 1851. He first settled in Ohio, but subsequently, in 1854, came to Elgin, Iowa, where he since lived and died. His home for the 16 years prior to his death was with his daughter, Mrs. W. J. Gruver.

Mr. Hunsberger was a man of many good qualities. He was honest in every way beyond question, kind to his family and neighbors, a true and steadfast friend. He was at the time of his death one of the oldest inhabitants of Pleasant Valley Township, both in age and length of time he had resided therein. The memory of Benedicht Hunsberger is one of a man of sterling qualities that will always have an influence for good on those who knew and live after him.
