Elgin Echo, Thursday, 9 January 1896.
Samuel Bauder died December 21, 1895, aged 50 years, funeral services were held at the German Baptist church Monday, December 23, conducted by Rev. Utack and attended by a large number of the friends of the deceased. Interment was at the Elgin Cemetery.
Samuel Bauder, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Bauder, was born in the Canton of Bern, Switzerland, in 1845. After spending 19 years of his youth in his native state he immigrated to America with his parents in 1864. He was united in marriage with Catherine Ruegg in 1873, and six children have blessed their home, three boys and three girls now living.
His last illness was brief and the days were crowded with the care of 50 winters which bear down upon his weatherbeaten brow and on December 21, 1895 The Angel of Death came as a relief to call our weary pilgrim home.
The entire community assembled to pay their last respects to an honest man.
The bereaved family have the heart felt sympathy of the entire community in this, their hour of affliction.
