Last Rites Conducted Saturday For Widely-Known Waucoma Dentist
WAUCOMA - Waucoma was shocked when the news of Dr. Paul Belding's death at New Hampton hospital was received shortly after noon Wednesday. While not feeling well the past week, he had been at his usual work until Wednesday morning when he went to the hospital. He was in great pain and was in the hospital only a short time when the fatal attack came.
Largely attended funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, June 6, at 2 o'clock at the Federated church, with Rev. Alfred Christensen, Hawkeye, in charge. Burial was in Waucoma cemetery in a joint Masonic and American Legion service. Casket-bearers were V.C. Willis, Ed Lynch, Phil Balk, John Armstrong, Harold Marron and H.M. Lovrein.
Dr. Belding was born June 11, 1896, to Herbert H. and Effie Rockwood Belding in Waucoma. He received his DDS degree at the University of Iowa at Iowa City in 1919, and also a BS degree at Upper Iowa university in 1943. He was editor of dental items of interest magazine since 1937, a member of the American Dental association of Chicago, American Association for the Advancement of Science, a Mason, I-club, International Association of Dental Research, Friends of the Land, author of many articles in newspapers and scientific publications, American Legion, former director of Research at Upper Iowa university, and was Waucoma and Eden township committeeman of the Republican party. He had practiced dentistry in Waucoma since 1919.
He and Miss Leta Rawson were married in Waucoma, Nov. 8, 1919.
Surviving besides his widow are four children, Dora Lee, now Mrs. Don Kizer, Raleigh, N. Car.; LaVerne Belding, Olympia, Wash.; Catherine, now Mrs. Carl Udehn, Chicago, and James, Oelwein; eight grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Arlene Clark, Estherville, and a brother, Dr. L.J. Belding, Waucoma.
