Belding Rites Held at Waucoma
WAUCOMA - Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, Dec. 13, at 2:30 from the Federated church for H.H. Belding, 85. Rev. Alfred Christensen, Hawkeye, officiated, and full Masonic rites were accorded under the direction of Kenneth Henderson, Hawkeye.
Pallbearers were Othmar Luce, Peter Collins, H.M. Lovrien, Walter Waskow, Dewey Chizek and George Stribley, with burial in Waucoma cemetery beside his wife who died Feb. 5, 1939.
Mr. Belding was found dead in bed at 8:30 Thursday morning at the home of his son, Dr. Leland Belding. His son had talked with him at 6 o'clock that morning. Death was attributed to the infirmities of old age with asthma complications.
Herbert Hooker Belding, son of Albert and Frances Harper Belding, was born in Caledonia, Minn., May 28, 1867, and was in his 86th year. He received his education in Caledonia schools and graduated from the school of dentistry at Iowa State University in 1894. Before going to college, he taught school several years in Minnesota. During vacations he worked with his uncle Dr. George Belding, Calmar, coming to Waucoma one day a week. Upon graduating, he came to Waucoma and opened an office, continuing his practice until retiring in 1927.
He was married to Miss Effie Rockwood, June 28, 1895, in Waucoma. They were the parents of four children, Dr. Paul H. Belding, Dr. L.J. Belding, both of Waucoma; Mrs. Arlene Belding Clarke, Estherville, and LaVerne Belding, who was killed in World War I. He was preceded in death by his wife, son, parents, two brothers and a sister. Surviving besides hi children are 11 grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.
He was former mayor of Waucoma, on the board of education for many years and active in civic affairs. He was also a member of Standard lodge A.F. and A.M. 351.
