Lawrence Oliver Guyer

Lawrence Oliver Guyer, son of Ethan Grant and Emma Josephine (Nelson) Guyer, was born on April 30, 1915, in Dover Township of Fayette County, Iowa. He became a child of God through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism on May 23, 1915, at the West Clermont Lutheran Church of Clermont, Iowa. Following catechism instruction he confirmed his faith in our Lord Jesus Christ at the same church on May 12, 1929. He received his education through the eighth grade.

On October 29, 1942, he was united in marriage to Rosina Lasetta Meyer at the St. Peter's Lutheran Church of Eldorado, Iowa. They were blessed with six children.

They farmed for forty years in Dover Township. He has been a member of the West Clermont Lutheran Church, where he served on the Church Council and of Zion Lutheran Church of West Union. He also served on the school boards of Dover No. 5 and 6 rural schools and was president of the board for many years.

Lawrence has been in failing health the past year. On Friday, Jan. 8, 1988 he died at the Palmer Memorial Hospital of West Union at the age of 72 years, eight months and nine days. He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers: Harvey, Aubrey, Victor, Jesse and Russel.

He is survived by his wife Rosina; four daughters, Leona Harris of Postville, Mary Jacobson of West Union, LaVonne Bemiss of West Union, LaVanda Meyer of Maynard; two sons Gaylord and James, both of West Union; a brother Lyle Guyer and sister Rose Olson, both of Clermont; 19 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
