Elgin Echo, Thur., 12 Nov. 1903.
Tuesday morning the news of the death of Mrs. Judson Nichols was learned with regret among our citizens. Her demise occurred at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Fred A. Crowe, at 2:15 o'clock that morning. For some years the lady has been a sufferer from heart trouble but at the time of death the immediate cause was pneumonia and the flight of the spirit was unexpected and sudden.
Mrs. Nichols maiden name was Reynold's and she was born at Bloomington, Ill., and was at the time of death nearly 62 years of age. In early life she came to Iowa and was married in Scott county to Judson Nichols. For 46 years she has proven faithful to her vows. To this union 12 children were born, 5 of whom have preceded the mother across the dark river of death. She leaves to mourn their loss, a husband and 7 grown children, 3 boys and 4 girls.
Mrs. Nichols was a true wife, a loving mother and always looked upon the bright side of life's journey. She was a good neighbor and has many friends who will regret to learn of her passing to the great beyond.
Funeral services will be held today (Thursday) afternoon at 2:00, from the German Baptist church and interment will be made in the Elgin cemetery.
