Obituary: Ray Silburn Truesdell was born Sept. 4, 1882, at Brush Creek, now Arlington, Iowa. His early life was spent on the old Truesdell homestead near Arlington and there he received his education in the country and public schools. When sixteen years old he united with the Christian church at Arlington and since then has rendered any service he could do for the good of the church and community. He was married twenty-nine years ago Oct. 14 (the date of his funeral) to Elgie B. Wilson of Arlington and to them were born three children - Mildred, Roberta, and Lee. They spent the first two and a half years on a farm in Missouri and the remainder of his life was spent on farms near Waucoma and Alpha. His life seemed to express itself in these words, to do all the good you can, to all the people you can, in all the ways you can and say nothing about it. There never was a task too great or a night too long if he could only be of service and comfort, and not a child too young or friend too old but that he had a pleasant smile or greeting for. He was a member of the Masonic and Eastern Star lodges at Waucoma and a member of the I.O.O.F. and Rebekah lodges at Alpha. On Tuesday morning, Oct. 11, while he was hauling soy beans, the load upon which he was riding tipped over, throwing him against the building to the ground, the result of this accident causing his death. He was rushed to a hospital at Rochester, but nothing could save him and he died at 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, 1932. He leaves to mourn his death his widow, two daughters, Mrs. Mildred Hodge and Mrs. Roberta Gager, and one son Raymond Lee; also two sisters, Mrs. Olive Hart of Postville and Mrs. Viola Richards of Fayette; and one brother, Frank Truesdell of Dickens, Iowa. Funeral services were held at the home Friday afternoon by the Rev. J.P. Gable. Interment was in the Alpha cemetery.
