Martin Amundson

Funeral services for Martin Amundon were held Saturday, May 27 at the East Clermont Lutheran Church at 11 a.m. Rev. Kim Thacker officiated. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Martin Helmer Amundson, son of Hans and Martine (Johnson) Amundson, was born May 20, 1892 in Marion Township, Clayton County. He died Tuesday, May 23 in Community Memorial Hospital, Postville.

He was baptized and confirmed in the East Clermont Lutheran Church. He attended the rural schools in Marion Township.

June 26, 1918 he married Mabel Helgerson at the home of her parents. They had 6 children. They farmed in Grand Meadow Township until 1958 when they moved to Clermont where Martin worked as a carpenter.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Norman; 4 brothers: Adolph, Ole, Henry and Louie and 3 sisters: Gunda Gilseson, Emma Loftsgard and Louis Vick.

He is survived by his wife, Mabel; 4 sons: Joseph and Roger and his wife, Lois, all of Clermont; Wayne and his wife, Clara, of Postville and Victor and his wife, Karen of Iowa Falls; 1 daughter, Arlene Bochoven of West Union and a daughter-in-law, Loretta Amundson of Postville, 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was a lifetime member of the East Clermont Lutheran Church.

Casket bearers were Mark Amundson, Larry Amundson, Jeremy Pampuch, William Bockoven, Josh Amundson and Jack Christensen.
