Elgin Echo, Thursday, 10 December 1908.

Al Gunsalus, a respected citizen and for many years a businessman of West Union, died at his home in that city Monday. He had been ailing all fall but his death came as a surprise to his many friends. He was the founder of the Chicago Store in that city and was always progressive and enterprising. Deceased is an old settler of Fayette County and has a wide acquaintance in the state.

NOTE: The only Gunsalus listed in WPA records is a A. C. Gunsalus 1840 - 1908, in West Union cemetery, with Civil War info.
