Elgin Echo, Thursday, 3 December 1908.
Magdalena Schori Schide Feller was born in Switzerland, March 5, 1837, and died at the home of her son Henry, November 25, 1908, at the ripe age of 70 years, 8 months and 20 days. She is survived by 5 sisters, 1 brother, 5 sons and 5 daughters. The sisters are Mrs. Elizabeth Neuenswander, of Remsen; Mrs. Anna Schultz, of Charles City; Louisa Kitcher, of Minneapolis, Minn.; Mrs. Marie Beer, of Elkader; and Mrs. Mary Johnson, of Decorah. The brother is Nicholas Schori, of Elgin. The children are Mrs. Henry Voss, of Volga; Mrs. Chas. Bunting, of Farmersburg; Mrs. Herman Bunting, of Elkader; Mrs. John Hadrich, of Salt Lake City, Utah; Mrs. Leslie Cooley, of Turkey River; Fred Schide, of Charles City; George, of Osborne; John, of Elkader; and Henry and Charles residing in Illyria.
Mrs. Feller came to America with her parents and settled on a farm in Clayton County. She was United in marriage to Mr. Schide and to this union were born two children. Mr. Schide preceded her in death and on January 29, 1870, she was again United in marriage with John Feller. They were the parents of eight children, all of whom are now living and all were present at the funeral except Mr. Fred Schide and Mrs. Hadrich. Mr. Feller preceded her in death only a few months, he having passed beyond September 30, 1908.
Mrs. Feller spent most of her life on a farm in Clayton County and about nine months ago moved to Illyria to live with her son. The immediate cause of her death was pneumonia. She was a kind and loving mother and will be greatly missed by her family. To her neighbors and friends she was ever a good, Christian friend and her home typified pioneer hospitality. To have reared such a large family of respected sons and daughters is a better tribute than mere empty words and testifies loudly as to the character and life of the departed.
The funeral services were held from the German Baptist church Friday morning, Rev. Draewel officiating, and all that was mortal of our respected and honored citizen was laid to rest in the Elgin Cemetery.
