Mrs. John Howard was born in Fayette County, Pennsylvania, in 1819. She was married to John Howard in 1840. They came to Fayette County, Iowa, in 1854 and settled on the farm which has been their home ever since, and where she died last Friday, October 2. She left five children to mourn her, three sons and two daughters. The sons are, W. E., Thos. and Enos Howard, and the daughters Mrs. C. A. Lyon, of Nebraska, and Mrs. Milton Stansberry of Sioux City. The funeral services were held Sunday at the Illyria church and the body was laid to rest in the Cemetery nearby. Six of her grandsons acted as pallbearers and Rev. T. H. Gallagher conducted the service and preached the funeral sermon.
