Elgin Echo, Thursday, 8 October 1908.

John Feller was born January 19, 1831, in Switzerland and died September 30, 1908, at his home with his son, Henry, in Illyria Township. He came to America in 1868 directly to Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, where he remained about six months, then came to Elgin, Iowa, where he was married January 29, 1870, to Magdalena Schori – Schide, who with eight children survives him. These are Mrs. Charles Bunting of Farmersburg, Mrs. Berman Bunting of Elkader, Mrs. John Hedrick of Salt Lake City, Utah, Mrs. Leslie Cooley of Turkey River Junction, Mrs. Henry Voss of Volga, George of Osborne, John of Elkader, Henry and Charles of Illyria and Fred Schide of Charles City.

The funeral service was held in the German Baptist church Friday afternoon and the body was laid to rest in the Elgin Cemetery. Rev. J. G. Draewel preached, speaking both in English and German on "looking up to Jesus" while the German Baptist choir sang appropriate songs.
