Elgin Echo, Thursday, 24 September 1908.

A fatal accident occurred on the farm on Fred Udson, about 3 miles from Clermont, Friday evening, when Mr. Udson was knocked down by his team which became frightened while he was unhitching them from a corn binder and one of the wheels of the machine passed over his head, crushing his skull and killing him instantly. His wife witnessed the accident.

Mr. Udson had placed his three-year-old son upon the seat of the machine when he began to unhitch the horses. He had unhitched one horse and had passed around to unhitch the other one when the horses became frightened and jumped. Mr. Udson attempted to catch the horse nearest him, but was knocked down and the machine passed over him. The horses ran some distance before the tongue of the machine was buried in the ground and this stopped them. The little boy kept his seat and was unhurt.
