Elgin Echo, Thur., 13 June 1918.
Tuesday afternoon our people were shocked by the news Aden Medberry, a well and favorably known young man of Illyria township, had lost his life in an accident which occurred at a potable saw mill that was in operation on his father's farm six miles southeast of Elgin, at about 2:30 o'clock that afternoon.
Aden with others was sawing logs into lumber and he was engaged in taking the slabs away from the saw. In doing this work he must have stepped on a loose board or in some manner slipped. In falling he was forced against the back part of the rapidly revolving saw. His right arm was almost severed and he was thrown by the blade until his right leg was caught near the thigh and terribly mangled and lacerated, the teeth of the saw penetrating the flesh and bone and making a terrible wound. First aid was given by those who were with him and he was carried into the house.
Dr. H. S. Hadsel was summoned and upon arriving he did what he could, but it was evident that the injured man could not long survive and about an hour and a half after the accident he passed away.
Aden Medberry was the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. G. E. Medberry and was almost twenty-one years of age. He was a manly fellow and possessed of worthy qualities and clean habits that made his friendship desired and his acquaintance sought. He had a host of friends who deplore his death and sympathize with the family in their sad bereavement.
Aden Medberry is survived by his father, G. E. Medberry, one sister and two brothers and a host of relatives and friends. The funeral services were held from the Illyria church this (Thursday) afternoon at two o'clock and interment was made in the cemetery there.
