Word reached relatives here Monday of the death of Peter Habeger of Morton, Ill. He is to be buried at Morton today at 1 o'clock. Jos. Haberger and wife and Alex Habeger left yesterday to attend the funeral. We hope to print a sketch of the man next week as he was a resident of this town in years past and also has children and other relatives living here.
13 Sept. 1917.
P. Habeger was born Jan. 5, 1840, Ohio being his native state, and departed this life at Morton, Ill., Sept. 4, 1917. When a small boy with his father and two brothers he came to Fayette county and here he resided for a number of years.
Nov. 14, 1864, he was united in marriage to Magdalena Phfarrer at West Union and the family moved to West Bend in the spring of 1884, where they made their home and reared their family.
Fourteen children were born to this union, three of whom preceded mother and father to the great beyond. Those surviving are J. A. Habeger of Elgin, Iowa; Mrs. C. W. Carstedt of Jolley, Iowa; Mrs. E. E. Fraedrick of Ridge, Oregon; Mrs. D. S. Broder also of Oregon; J. E. Habeger of Nunda, South Dakota; D. J. Habeger of Ottison, Iowa; W. A. Habeger of Chicago, Illinois; Mrs. Charles Imhoff of Benjamin, Mississippi; Mary Habeger of West Bend, Iowa; and Miss Ida Habeger who is a Red Cross nurse and was at the time of her father's death on her way to France.
Deceased was a good man and he leaves behind many who will regret his death. The family has the sympathy of all in their bereavement. The funeral was held at the Illinois home and was largely attended.
