Elgin Echo, Thur., 19 April 1917.
The funeral services of Chauncy Hills were held in Clermont, Sunday afternoon, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ben Conner, Rev. T. S. Cleworth officiating. Mr. Hills died Friday. He was taken ill while at work at Postville, and when brought here became worse and worse, pneumonia setting in and claiming him as its victim after a weeks illness at the age of 47 years, 10 months and 13 days. He leaves to mourn their loss his invalid wife, 3 daughters and 4 sons - Jessie (Mrs. James Powers), Lucy (Mrs. Ben Connor), Mary, Carl, James, William and Bernard, the last five at home.
Chauncy Hills was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Hills and was born near Elgin, Iowa, May 22, 1869. He was always a strong rugged boy and man and was endowed with a kind heart and a cheerful disposition which made him friends wherever he went. He was ever a kind husband and Father.
In March, 1892, he was married to Margaret A. Capper.
The many friends extend sympathy to the bereaved family in this hour of bitter sorrow.
