Elgin Echo, Thur., 17 May 1917.

Louisa Peeper was born in Germany August 20, 1837, and departed this life May 11, 1897, aged 79 years, 8 months and 21 days. In 1948 she came to America with her parents and three brothers, Fred, Henry and Frank, settling in Winnebago county, Illinois, twenty miles northeast of Freeport. Here she spent her girlhood. In her youth she was catechized, baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church. When about eighteen years old she was converted and joined the Evangelical church.

April 3, 1857, she was united in marriage to A. S. Baldwin, soon after moving to Fayette county, Iowa, where she has since lived, barring two years which they spent in Benton county, Iowa.

After coming to Iowa she united with the United Brethren church which had since been her home. She was an upright woman, and to know her was to love and esteem her.

Her husband, A. S. Baldwin, departed this life June 30, 1888, at their present home. She leaves to mourn their loss three sons, J. B. Baldwin of Washington state, Mr. and Mrs. F. M. Baldwin of Hazelton, Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Baldwin in the old home.

There are also three grandsons and two grand-daughters, two brothers, Henry Peeper in the west and Frank at Davis, Illinois. Besides these many other relatives, friends and neighbors mourn the departure of this good woman.

The funeral was held in the Illyria church Sunday afternoon conducted by Rev. J. S. Moore, of Wadena. Interment was made in the churchyard there.

So has gone one more of the early Pioneers.
