Elgin Echo, Thur., 12 April 1917. (A full column obit, here condensed).

Carl Frederick Becker, the son of Frederick and Sophia (Miller) Becker, was born 2 miles east of Arlington, Iowa, July 30, 1860, where he spent his early childhood. At 15 he moved with his parents to Clermont. He attended the local schools then took a preparatory course at Upper Iowa University then attended the academy at Iowa City. He next attended Eastman Business College at Poughkeepsie, New York, graduating in 1882.

He began his business career with a clerical position at Grand Island, NE, where he remained 2 years, then secured a position in a general store at Clermont, remaining there until 1892, when he was elected cashier of the Citizen's State Bank of Elgin, Iowa. He devoted all his energy to the faithful fulfillment of that trust until failing health compelled him to cease working in November of 1916.

May 13, 1885, he was united in marriage to Alice A. Ford, of Clermont, and to them were born 5 sons, Dr. Roy A. of Anita; Harry F. of Clermont; Clarence and Louis F. at home; and Glenn, who died at an early age.

November 29, 1916, on advice of his doctors, he resigned his bank position and soon after went to Atlantic where he could be under the observation and treatment of his brother, Dr. F. J. Becker and his son, Dr. Roy Becker. For a time his improvement was more than expected and then a change came and he failed rapidly until the end came on April 9, 1917. Hardening of the arteries was the cause of his demise.

The remains were taken to the family home in Elgin where services were held, after which the Masonic order took charge and the cortege proceeded to the Clermont cemetery where interment was made.

Besides the immediate family there remain to mourn, his aged Father, Dr. Frederick Becker of Clermont, and two brothers: Dr. F. J. Becker of Atlantic and A. G. Becker of Clermont, also two grandchildren, besides a large number of relatives and friends.

Among the relatives from out of town to attend the funeral and not already mentioned were: Earl Becker and Fred Bigler of Clermont; L. E. Bigler, E. P. Aeschelman, and Mrs. Susan Bigler of Wadena; H. F. Robbins, with many others from out of town.
