Barbara Luchsinger was born in Schwanden, Canton Glarus, Switzerland, on July 5, 1831, and died at the home of her son, Melchr Luchsinger, December 26, 1916, at the age of 85 years, 5 months and 21 days. The deceased with her husband and two daughters came to this country in 1880 and has since made her home with her son, Melchr, near this city.

She was a true woman and had the faculty of making and holding friends and was loved and esteemed by all who knew her. There are many who will miss her council and kindly advice of Grandmother Luchsinger, but her good deeds will live in the memory of all.

Funeral services were held in the German Baptist church Friday afternoon, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Wedel, and a large number of sorrowing relatives and friends were in attendance to pay a last tribute of respect to the one they had known and loved in this life. Interment was made in Elgin cemetery.
