Elgin Echo, Thur., 4 January 1917.

Charles W. Bopp died last night at 11:30 at Dr. Hill's retreat in Des Moines, where he had been for the past three weeks. His brothers, Will E. Bopp of Minneapolis and John G. Bopp of Hawkeye, went this morning to Des Moines to make the funeral arrangements. Interment probably will be made in the Bopp family lot at Hawkeye. Mr. Bopp was forty-eight years of age. He had lived a high pressure life and for some years past it was seen that he was breaking under the strain, while in recent months his physical and mental failure had been marked. His wife was instantly killed Sept. 22 last in a automobile accident two miles south of West Union, while Mr. and Mrs. Bopp were driving to Oelwein.

Mr. Bopp was born on the Bopp farm north of Hawkeye. He was for years a highly successful traveling salesman for safes, then became president of the Bopp Bros.' bank at Hawkeye, now First National bank, and later was general agent for Ford Motor Co. with headquarters at Oelwein. In this capacity he more than once broke the record for placing the largest order for automobiles ever placed by one man at a time. He is reported to have left a large estate in land, bank stock, and life insurance.

Mr. Bopp's death was due to pneumonia, but when he was placed by his brothers in the Hill retreat three weeks ago it was known that his general condition must lead to his early death.

Mr. Bopp is survived by the following brothers and sisters: Col. J. W. Bopp of West Union, M. N. Bopp of Clear Lake, Will E. Bopp of Minneapolis, John G. Bopp of Hawkeye, L.E. Bopp of Greenwood, Wis., Mrs. William Billmeyer of Auburn township, and Mrs. J. D. Hughes of Roseberry, Idaho.- Argo-Gazette.
