Elgin Echo, Thur., 18 January 1917.

Jane Anderson was born near Goteborg, Sweden, December 8, 1832, and passed away in Elgin, January 15, 1917, at the age of 84 years, 1 month and 6 days. She was reared in the Lutheran church and having embraced its doctrines in those plastic years its teachings were always dear to her.

Several years prior to coming to the United States she spent in Goteborg, and while there helped to educate two of her motherless nieces, and every year a Christmas letter from them has brought joy to her.

In the spring of 1870 she came to Clayton county, Iowa, and shortly after her arrival was married and settled on a farm near Volga.

She was the mother of three children, Carl August dying in infancy, Jennie E. and John Osborne survive.

During her last illness she was very patient and her passing was like one who lieth down to a quiet sleep.

Of her it may be truly said: "Blessed are the dead who die in the lord".

For some years past she had made her home with her daughter, Mrs. John Anderson, and husband, and it was there that she peacefully crossed the silent river to the land of the immortal souls.

Deceased was of a retiring nature but her most loyal and true friends were those who knew her best.

The funeral services were held from her late home, conducted by Rev. Wedel, and a large number of sorrowing relatives and friends were in attendance to pay a last tribute of respect to one they had known and respected in life, among this number being several from out of town. Interment was made in the Elgin cemetery.
