Elgin Echo, Thursday, 3 August 1899. (condensed).

Died, of heart failure, Mary Schneider, wife of Casper Schneider, at the family home in Elgin, Iowa, on July 29, 1899, aged seventy years, six months and seventeen days. Funeral services were held at the German Baptist church at Elgin on August 1, conducted by Rev. R. J. Hack, and interment was made in Elgin cemetery.

Anna Maria Spahr was born at M(e or o)tt, Canton Berne, Switzerland, January 12, 1829. She was married to Casper Schneider, May 18, 1851. In 1851 the couple emigrated to America and soon after settled at Elgin, Iowa. Nine children blessed the union, eight of whom survive the mother; Mrs. Paul Stephens, Prairie du Chein; Mrs. Peter Nelson, Minneapolis, Minn.; Mrs. Henry Nelson, Ontario, Cal.; Mrs. John Ha(n or a)sis, Nora Springs; Mrs. Fred Lehman and Rosa, Fred and Will Schneider, Elgin.

The death of Mrs. Schneider closed the earthly existence of a good woman, a perfect mother, a true wife and a kind and steadfast friend. She was loved and respected by all with whom she was acquainted. Her death came without pain or the sadness of a last farewell.
