Elgin Echo, Thur., 7 September 1899.

Last Monday night John Wagmiller was fatally injured by falling from the porch roof of Henry Jook's house in Elgin. Young Wagmiller had been working in the factory until last Thursday when he was taken sick with measles. He boarded with Mr. Jook near the factory and was confined to his bed there. No bad symptoms were manifest Monday evening and at 11:30 when the factory shut down Mr. Jook visited the sick boy's room and found him quietly sleeping. About 1:30 a.m. Mr. Perryman, who occupies the lower floor of the house, heard Wagmiller walk about the room above, open the window, step out upon the porch roof and fall to the ground. The sufferer was at once carried back to bed and a doctor summoned, who found he was injured at the base of the skull and upper portion of the spinal column. The injured boy died a few hours after.

It is thought the Wagmiller boy was suffering from temporary insanity caused by the measles and walked from the porch in his delirium. Funeral services were held at the German Baptist church yesterday, conducted by Rev. R. J. Hack.

John Wagmiller was just past nineteen years of age and was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Fritz Wagmiller, living three miles west of Elgin. He was a good industrious boy and his untimely death is a shock to all his acquaintances.
