Postville Review, 8 March 1912. (condensed).

Ellen M. Bike was born in Center Co., Penn., May 29, 1846. When she was nine years old, in 1855, the family moved to Stephenson Co., Ill., where she grew to womanhood, and where on Feb. 4, 1874, she married Solon B. Finney, and they came at once to Postville, Iowa, where they resided until March of 1891, when they moved to Fayette, where they have since resided.

She embraced religion very early in life, before her marriage she was superintendent of a Sunday School in Illinois, and during her 17 years in Postville taught a class in a Sunday School. While in Postville and Fayette she was actively identified with every line of Christian and humanitarian work.

For a time before her death her mind was, at intervals, more or less clouded, the result of paralytic action, the vital forces gradually lessened, and from a state of unconsciousness she entered upon a long Sabbath of rest on March 3, 1912.

Mrs. Finney was the youngest of a family of seven sisters and two brothers, of whom remain four sisters - Mrs. Barber of Illinois; Mrs. Haines of Fayette, Iowa; Mrs. Kertin of Nebraska, and Mrs. Shoemaker of Pennsylvania.

Of her own family circle remain her husband and three children - Prof. Ross L. Finney of Illinois Wesleyan Univ.; Harry A. Finney of Commercial Dept., High School, Aurora, Ill.; and Mrs. Myra E. McComb, Supt. of Schools, Soudan, Minn.. There are also six grandchildren and a large circle of friends and more distant relatives.

Mrs. Finney was buried from the home on March 5th, The bearers were her husband, her two sons, and H. S. Luhman of Postville, and Eugene and Solon Hanchett of Fayette,
