Elgin Echo, Thur., 4 May 1899.

J. P. Blakeney, a relative of Judge Hobson, died at Fayette, on April 26, 1899, at the home of his son-in-law, John Livermore. Thirty-five years ago Blakeney was a justice of the peace of Auburn township and one of its most influential citizens. Being a life long democrat he was almost invariably a delegate from Auburn township to county conventions and frequently from the county to state conventions. He was an honest, upright, kind hearted man, but fortune having dealt unkindly with him he had passed out of public notice long prior to his death.
