Elgin Echo, Thur., 30 Dec. 1909.

Friday evening, Dec. 24, 1909, at the farm home near Brainard, occurred the death of Mrs. Joseph Patterson. She was a lady about 71 years old and had been a resident of this county for many years, having for the past 20 years resided on the farm where her death occurred. Her husband was in Oklahoma when he learned of her serious illness and took the first train home, but owing to the lateness of the trains on account of cold weather and snow, he missed the connections and did not arrive home until Saturday evening after his beloved wife had passed away. Mrs. Patterson was a loved and respected woman and her taking away on Christmas Eve cast gloom in many a heart and home. Besides her husband and three daughters and three sons, she leaves many relatives and loving friends to mourn her departure.

Funeral services were held Tuesday and interment was made in the Pleasant Grove cemetery north of Brainard.
