Elgin Echo, Thur., 25 Feb. 1909. Additional information appears in this issue of the Elgin Echo and is taken from the Marion County Independent published at Fairmont, Minnesota. (condensed).

Fred Wohlheter:

Was born in Auenheim, Alsace Loraine, Germany, 25 Mar. 1832. Emigrated at age 17 from Germany to America, landing at Buffalo, New York, in 1849. A short time later he went to Chicago for a couple years and then in the early 1850s to Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he had charge of the blacksmith work in the construction of the first flour mill erected in that city. About 1855 he located in Elgin, Iowa, where he resided for over 30 years. In 1888 he and his family moved to Zearing, Iowa, again engaging in a hardware business, until he retired in 1902. In 1907 he and his wife went to Marshaltown, Iowa, where they made their home with their daughter, Mrs. J. V. Parker. They, with their daughter, moved to Fairmont, Minnesota, in May of 1908. He married Magdalene Light at Elgin, Iowa, 25 Mar. 1856. Their marriage was blessed by 7 children, 4 of whom preceded the parents, 2 in infancy, 1 son in youth, while another son, Willard J. Wohlheter, died at his home in Welcome in March of 1908. Surviving Mr. Wohlheter are 2 sons, Geo. W. Wohlheter of Zearing, Iowa, and Charles Wohlheter of White, South Dakota, and 1 daughter, Mrs. J. V. Parker of Elgin, Iowa. Also 1 brother, George Wohlheter of Elgin, Iowa, and 2 sisters, Mrs. Walter Dollen of near Fairmont, Minnesota, and Mrs. N. Schoeneck of Chicago.

Mary Magdalene Wohlheter:

Was born at New Alsace, Indiana, 11 June 1838, and passed away on Friday, 12 Feb. 1909, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. V. Parker, of Fairmont, Minnesota. She came with her parents to Elgin, Iowa, in 1845, where she married Fred Wohlheter on 25 Mar. 1856. Her life story after her marriage is the same as her husbands above. In addition to her children she is also survived by 3 sisters and 1 brother: Mrs. Mary Engler of Clayton, Iowa, Mrs. Francis Wander of Clermont, Iowa, Mrs. Rosanna Spahr of West Union, Iowa, and Albert Light of Elgin, Iowa.
