Mary Monnahan was born in county Maeth, Ireland, 03 Feb. 1825, and died 16 Mar. 1909. She came to this country in 1845 and was married to Simon O'Neill 26 Dec. 1851, in Oneida county, New York, residing there until 1865 when they with their two sons removed to Illyria, Fayette county. Here they purchased a farm and lived there until the death of her husband on 12 Jul. 1893. She spent the remainder of her life living with her grandson, Simon O'Neill, in Pleasant Valley.
Deceased was preceded by her husband, 2 sons in infancy and 2 sisters, Mrs. John Ball, of Oneida county, New York, and Mrs. Patrick O'Harron, of this place, and 3 brothers, John and Michael Monnahan, of this place, and Jas. of Canada.
Survivors include 2 sons, J. F. and J. S. O'Neill, 4 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Wm. Boyle, besides a host of relatives and friends to mourn her untimely death.
The remains were interred in the Catholic cemetery at Wadena, conducted by Rev. Father Gallahue, of West Union. Six of her nephews, the Boyle Bros. acted as pall bearers.
