Elgin Echo, Thur., 27 Dec. 1906.
James Payne, assistant foreman of the Great Western Lumber yard, was found dead at the crossing of the Great Western and Rock Island railroads in Oelwein, Tuesday morning of last week. The coroner's jury found that he "came to his death by an accident due to his own negligence." He evidently was killed Monday evening as his body was frozen stiff when found. The deceased was a former resident of Maynard and was buried there by the Masons who had charge of the funeral.
