Elgin Echo, Thursday, 26 December 1912.

Gustav A. Oelwein, for whom the city of Oelwein was named, died December 19 at the age of 74 years. About forty years ago when the B.C.R.N. survey came through Mr. Oelwein donated the site and the city was given his name.
