Elgin Echo, Thursday, 25 April 1895.

Last Saturday afternoon witnessed one of the most mournful events that has ever befallen West Union. As E. E. Waide and his son Willard were driving into town the team, for some unknown cause, took fright and ran over the bridge west of the county fair grounds. As they approached the wagon struck the side of the bridge and was stopped at once, which threw the two men with great force against whatever happened to be in the line of their movement. Both were senseless for a long time and E. E. Waide, a honored citizen and prosperous farmer, died Sunday morning. Willard was very seriously hurt but there are hopes of his recovery. E. E. was an old gentleman living on one of the best farms in Fayette county, about one mile southwest of that city. Willard Waide is a young married man and has always lived with his father.
