Elgin Echo, Thursday, 25 September 1902.

Although not unexpected yet our community was none the less saddened by the intelligence that another pioneer, another land mark, one who had been eventified with the history and common wealth of Elgin and Fayette county for nearly half a century, had passed away and that Mrs. George Stoehr was no more.

Rosaline Mary Guth was born December 15, 1840, in Lorain, France, and was the only child of Peter and Anna M. Guth. She came to this country when but thirteen years of age, landing at New York City, going from there to Buffalo and from that city came to Iowa and was united in marriage with Geo. Stoehr October 12, 1857. Six children were born to them, four of whom survive the mother: Gus A., Eugene, Rudolph J, and Mrs. Lillie Mattoon, all residents of Elgin.

Mrs. George Stoehr at the time of her death, Saturday, September 20, 1902, was 61 years, 9 months and 5 days of age. She was a noble hearted energetic woman, looking always after the happiness and welfare of others and was universally beloved by all for her kind heart and generous disposition.

The funeral services were held at the home Tuesday forenoon conducted by Rev. S. Rice of West Union. The interment was in the Elgin Cemetery.

The entire community owed her a deep debt of gratitude for her noble life and example, and rejoice that she has gone to receive the reward which she richly deserves.
