Elgin Echo, Thursday, 29 May 1902.

On Saturday, May 24, the body of Wm. Quinn, who was drowned at Clermont May 17, was found on the J. C. Cooley farm north of Elgin by Chas. Hoelzer.

Charles was fishing along the cut-off channel one-half mile from town when he discovered the body. The man lay face down in the mud. A fence post with barbed wire attached was laying across his head and neck. Mr. Hoelzer at once reported to the proper authorities at Elgin and they to Clermont officers who came and took charge of the body which was in a horrible state of decomposition it having been just one week from the time he was drowned that the body was discovered. On the corpse was found $1.70 in money, a jack knife and a pipe. The remains were at once interred in the Clermont cemetery.
