Elgin Echo, Thursday, 6 December 1894.

A very shocking death occurred at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Will Wickham, two and a half miles northwest of Hawkeye, last Thursday night. Their infant child did not awaken that morning, and on going to the little ones bed the parents were horrified at finding it had been dead for some hours. Medical aid was immediately summoned and it is the theory without a post mortem examination that the babe succumbed to a sudden attack of convulsions, which infants are subject to. It is a sad blow to the parents.
