Elgin Echo, Thursday, 6 December 1894.

A dreadful accident happened on the farm of Alex Scott, Friday, by which Johnie, his ten year old son was almost instantly killed. The little fellow had been leading one of the horses to water. When returning to the barn he gave him a long halter and the horse in his play kicked, striking Johnie on the side of the head crushing his skull. The boy was thrown with such force to the ground that the other side of his head, striking the ground, was also crushed. He never knew what hurt him, and although Doctors Darnell and Robinson were called there was no hope from the first. Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church Sunday afternoon at 2:30, Rev. Lewis preaching the discourse, and the remains were taken over the hill for the last long sleep.- Argo.
