Funeral Services Held For Anna Swenson

A Memorial Service for Carman Swenson was held Monday, July 8, 2002, at 10 a.m. in the West Clermont Lutheran Church. The Reverend David Nelson officiated. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Clermont was in charge of arrangements. Inurnment will be in God's Acre Cemetery at Clermont at a later date.

Carman Swen Swenson, the son of Swen and Anna (Jauret) Swenson, was born in Grand Meadow Township, Clayton County, near Clermont, Iowa. He passed away Thursday, July 4, 2002, in the Good Samaritan Center at West Union, Iowa. He had reached the age of 86 years, 5 months, and 4 days.

He was baptized in 1916 and confirmed in 1930, both in the East Clermont Lutheran Church. He attended the Grand Meadow Township Country School and graduated from the Clermont High School.

On October 19, 1933 he was married to Beryl Jeanette Miller at the home of her parents near Clermont. They were the parents of 3 children, Judith Ann, Carman William "Bill", and Mary Kay.

The family lived on the Swenson farm on the County Line Road, in Grand Meadow Township, where they lived for 61 years. They moved to Elgin in 1977. Carman drove a school bus for the Valley Community School for several years.

Surviving are his children, Judith Ann (Leo) Woods, of Dyersville, IA. and Mary Kay (Robert) Marvin of Janesville, IA; 5 grandchildren, Michael Woods, Stephen (Carol) Woods, Jeffrey Marvin, John (Paula) Marvin, and Elizabeth Marvin (Mark) Ball; 9 great grandchildren, Steven (Angie)Woods, Kara (Bud) Johnson, Danny Woods, Jonathan (Nadine) Woods, Seth Woods, Collin Ball, Spencer Ball, Victoria Marvin, and Erik Marvin; 5 great great grandchildren, Brody and Ali Woods, Conner and Megan Woods, and Duncan Woods; a sister Reva Torkelson of Postville, and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Beryl, who died February 13, 1995; a son Carman William "Bill" Swenson; a grandson, David Woods and 3 brothers, Orvie, Roy and Milo, who died in infancy.

Carman was a member of the West Clermont Lutheran Church since 1933
