Funeral Services Held For Anna Swenson

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the West Clermont Lutheran Church for Mrs. Swen M. Swenson, 75, of Clermont, who passed away September 8. The rites were performed by Rev. A. O. Nesset with music furnished by Mrs. Willet Miller, soloist, and Agnes Bilden, organist. Burial was in the Clermont cemetery.

Anna M. Swenson was born March 14, 1874 in Clayton county near Motor, which was then a small village six miles east of Elkader. She was one of ten children born to Christian and Mary Jauert, early settlers of Clayton county.

She was baptized and confirmed in the German Lutheran Church at Clayton Center. She attended public school in Clayton county.

On February 27, 1896, she was united in marriage to Swen Swenson at Postville. They moved at once to a farm four miles northeast of Clermont, where they resided for 45 years. To them were born five children -- Roy of Clermont, Orvie of Waseca, Minnesota, Reva (Mrs. Oliver Torkelson) of Elgin, Carmen, who lives on the home farm, and Milo, who died in infancy.

In 1941 they retired to their present home in Clermont and in the spring of 1946,were privileged to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary. All through the years she enjoyed good health until about a month ago, when her health began to fail. She developed pneumonia and was taken to Postville Hospital where she passed away September 8, following a heart attack.

She is survived by her husband, her sons and daughters, 16 grandchildren, three sisters -- Mrs. Elizabeth Johnson of Onalaska, Wisconsin, Mrs. Pauline Stark of Fairbury, Nebraska, Mrs. Marie Stahl of Volga, two brothers -- John Jauert of Calmar and Rudy Jauert of Rochester, Minnesota.

Her parents, one brother, three sisters, one grandchild and an infant son preceded her in death.
